Instead of running ragged with scattered clients, she’s working with the CLIENTS SHE WANTS and charging the RATES SHE’S WORTH.

Get specific on who you serve
If you’ve never heard this before, then you’re probably new to the blog. You MUST get specific on what you do and who you serve.
Allison recommends telling prospects, “I only work with mom entrepreneurs or I only work with male athletes.” Find your niche audience whoever they are.
Don’t give into the inner voice of fear. Maybe you say, “I would accept other people. I would work with others.” Maybe you would. But saying that will sabotage your marketing copy. Work up the courage to stick to your dream audience.
If you need help getting clear on who you serve, ask these two questions.
Question 1: What are you passionate about?
Example: You become a graphic designer for a yoga studio because you love yoga and want to integrate that into your business.
Question 2: Who are you envious of?
Example: Find a celebrity in your field who has your dream job. Then find out who they market to and see if that audience would be a good fit.
Update your copy
Allison has a great exercise called the Youtube Challenge. It’s easy. Go onto Youtube and type in the problem you solve for people. Maybe, it’s “Carpet cleaning for condos” or “How to create an effective email funnel.”
Now skip the video.
Jump straight for the comments – that’s where the real value is.
If you ask people about your services face-to-face, you’ll probably get a false reaction. People want to be kind! At least they don’t want to offend you for no reason. So, they’ll say, “Yeah, I’d hire a bookkeeper. You’re the best!” Yeah right!
People on Youtube don’t have the same filters. They’re not being watched, so they’re more honest. You might read a comment that says, “I want to try bookkeeping, but I tried Quickbooks and it was so scary and so overwhelming.”
USE THAT COPY FOR YOUR WEBSITE! If you’re a bookkeeper, then talk about how scary Quickbooks is and how you address that fear. Don’t just say, “You need bookkeeping.” That’s not powerful enough. Your ideal customers are already talking about their issues online. Find them!
Build a day-rate package
Here’s how you go from small projects to $2000-a-day clients.
Surprise, it has to do with getting specific.
Don’t ask clients, “So what do you want to do?” Offer them clear packages instead.
Here’s what Allison does: “I say we’re going to either work on your website, sales page, or promo emails for you today. This is the process. It’ll be done by the end of the day. People will pay for speed.”
Do you see the pattern here, Startup Nation? Allison got clear on the broad things like who her audience was. Then she was able to get clear on her messaging. Then she was able to get clear on her product.
