A Conversation with Joseph Warren and Daniel GomezA self-titled “confidence architect,” Daniel Gomez uses his warm, engaging, inspirational talks to transform lives every day. And he is crushing his speaking business! Daniel was also one of my coaching clients. During our time together, we worked through deep spiritual and mental blocks keeping him from growing his business and making his first $100K. In the beginning, Daniel was unsure of who he was and felt like he always needed to be the loudest, most important person in the room. His talks suffered because of that. But a few months ago I had the privilege of seeing him speak live... Wow! Forget $10,000 a month in speaking fees. I believe he could be making $50,000 EVERY SINGLE MONTH doing what he loves. Startup Nation, you’re probably wondering how you can experience a transformation like this, how you can approach a client and ask for $50,000 a month (and get it). Here are Daniel’s three business tips for embracing a $100K business mindset: 1. Shift from an employee mindset to successful business mindset When you work a 9-5 job, you’re following someone else’s orders. When you become an entrepreneur, your destiny is in your own hands. No one is telling you what to do, and you’re responsible for your own success. To get into this success mindset, Daniel recommends waking up every morning and saying, “I am a successful businessman and businesswoman.” Affirm your future success, Startup Nation! 2. Stop seeing everything as a cost The employee mindset sees opportunities in terms of cost. You don’t want your boss standing in your cubicle yelling, “You spent $10,000 on what?!” However, the sucessful business mindset sees opportunities as investments. The best investment you can make is in yourself! So, stop looking for free courses and trainings. Those will only get you so far. It’s a cliché, but you have to spend money to make money. Look, if you’re too cheap to invest in yourself, then why would your customers invest in and buy from you? 3. Take the long road When Daniel started out as a speaker, he met hundreds of world-class communicators. He felt pressure to become like them immediately. But every journey takes time. Daniel likes to use the metaphor of the radish and oak tree to give himself perspective. A radish can grow in 5 days. At that point you can eat it because it’s done growing. But that’s a radish. Oak trees take longer to grow. You might not marvel at its speed or size early on, but the oak tree is going to be around a lot longer than the radish. The difference is in the power of the seed. The seed is going to tell you what the end result is going to be. So, Startup Nation, what seed are you going to plant? Are you going to be a radish (and burnout quickly), or are you going to be an oak tree (and last for decades)? 90% of entrepreneurs fail because their negative mindsets break them down. Entrepreneurship isn't a financial or economic game. It's a mental game.
