Behind the Curtain with Joseph WarrenStartup Nation, today I’m going to share a story, and it’s going to be a story about Jesus. I know not all my listeners are Christian or even religious. That’s ok. But this story reveals a critical mindset that allows entrepreneurs like you to overcome tiredness, frustration, and depression. One day Jesus was on a mountain teaching a large crowd of people. He was teaching them about how to live and about who God is. This crowd wasn’t full of professors, or priests, or billionaires. These were regular people like you and me. Jesus understood the problems facing regular people. He knew that we worry. We worry about jobs, and food, and clothing. So, to encourage the crowd of listeners, he said, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’… But seek first [God’s] kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be given to you as well.” Make holiness your first priorityMuch of what Jesus taught turns “common sense” on its head. This saying about seeking God’s kingdom first isn’t any different. If you’ve ever been uncertain of where your next meal is coming from, you know it’s a stressful – and I mean STRESSFUL – situation. Your #1 thought is, “I need to find money and food for tomorrow.” Now I’m not saying starving people shouldn’t feed themselves, but many of us already know where our next meal is coming from. We have a closet full of clothes. And yet we worry. We worry about EVERYTHING. And because we worry, we make money our god. Really, we make control our god. After making the paycheck, we give our leftovers to our family, friends, and God. Does your spouse resent you? Are your children cold and rebellious? It might be because you're giving them your leftovers. Startup Nation, the reason we feel stuck, tired, or frustrated in our careers and family lives is because we have our PRIORITIES WRONG. Here’s how it should be. Make holiness your first priority. Then pursue family. Then make money Give up controlChanging your priorities isn’t easy. But it’s possible. The main thing is that you MUST give up control. Trust God with your life and your needs and then family, home, and meals will follow. If it helps, you can use my Surrender Principle. ™ You can complete this on your own, right now. If you’re not spiritual, that’s ok. You don’t have to belong to a specific faith. But you do have to let go of control.
As Jesus says, “… and all of these things will be given to you as well.” If you give up control and embrace God’s plan for your life, you aren’t guaranteed to be a millionaire. But God will provide for his children. That’s what he promises. Are you willing to trust him? Key takeawayGive God, the Creator of the universe, control of your life and needs. Then you will be free to live out your true life purpose. I understand that everyone is in a different place. Maybe you know you aren’t in control, but you can’t admit that you need God. Maybe you know you can’t do it on your own, but you have NO CLUE what God’s plan for your life is.
