A Conversation with Megan Huber and Joseph WarrenMegan Huber runs a multi-million-dollar business acceleration business, but she didn’t start with success. She began with a personal development business in 2011, and when that didn’t work out the way she planned, she joined an enterprise-level coaching corporation. For four years, she worked with thousands of coaches. Some made $600,000+ year in and year out. Some could hardly pay their bills. “What was the difference?” she wondered. The difference was that the most successful coaches created communities first and sales second. Why you need a community The best coaches focus on building a community first. They create places where their ideal clients can gather. Most of these are online communities like Facebook or LinkedIn. Megan says, “Human beings like to feel like we belong somewhere. It makes us feel seen, heard, and understood. They’re only going to say “yes” if there’s a sense of belonging.” Are you creating these kind of spaces, Startup Nation? More importantly, are you putting your customers first? “Make people my priority,” says Megan. “Serve people first… Gather ideal clients and ask them questions about what they want.” How to build your own community? Let’s get down to business, startup Nation. “Community” is a vague idea. And vague ideas don’t make money. Step 1. Get clear on who your ideal client is. Know what they want and how you can meet that need. Most importantly, ASK THEM! Megan had 30 interviews with potential customers before launching her brand. Step 2. Create an offer that solves that problem. Once you’re clear on your ideal client, get clear on what you’re offering them. Even if you’re in professional services, try coming up with an offer you could put in a box. Make it TANGIBLE. I’ll share a secret formula for a great offer: “A simple step-by-step system that will help you reach X goal in Y amount of time.” Step 3. Choose ONE revenue generating platform. Don’t try to create communities on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Each platform has its own personality, and what works on one won’t work on another. Megan chose Facebook. She set up groups for potential clients and started feeding them value. She did 2-3 Facebook Live broadcasts a week. She posted everyday and responded to comments from followers. She asked them more questions about what they struggled with. Then she could start making sales. After she built up her Facebook community and gained their trust, she introduced her offer from Step 2. She asked clients to join her coaching program. And guess what, Startup Nation, it worked. She’s made over $1 million! And so can you. Key Takeaway: Use Social Media communities to create trust and loyalty with your ideal customers.
